Dr. Lynn D. Locklear
Dr. Lynn Locklear is a 1990 graduate of Howard University College of Dentistry and a Wellesley College Alumna. Since 2002 she has completed over five hundred hours of postgraduate training in cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry and the treatment of cranial facial pain. After operating a successful family practice for ten years, she created Life Enhancing Dentistry, a niche practice whose mission is to significantly enhance the quality of peoples' lives in a way that is meaningful and lasting. Her unique and highly successful approach to patient care landed her Black Enterprise Magazine's Small Business Innovator of the Year Award in 2006. Dr. Locklear has appeared on numerous local and national news and radio programs. She is the founder and Chief Executive of the Gift of a Smile Foundation. Her Washington, D.C. practice is specifically dedicated to Comprehensive Esthetic Rehabilitation and treatment of Cranial Facial pain. Dr. Locklear is dedicated to life-long learning and to that end enjoys sharing her knowledge with others through lectures and mentoring.

M. Makael Newby
Guest Care Specialist
Makael has been a team-member since 2002, and a patient since 2000. As the smiling face at our front door, Makael greets our guests, coordinates appointments and payment arrangements, assists with insurance questions, and assists with the practice’s marketing, PR and advertising needs. Trained at LVI, she also specializes in operating the K7 Evaluation System for precise assessment of Neuromuscular cases. In addition to her work with Life-Enhancing Dentistry, Makael is a Landmark Education Introduction Leader, a Ballroom, Swing, and Salsa dance instructor, and provides Reconnective Healing sessions both at the office and in her home studio. She is actively seeking a publisher for her first children’s picture story book.

Janyce F. Jefferson, RDH, MPH
Oral Hygiene Specialist
Janyce brings thirty plus years of professional experience to the “oral hygiene table.” Twice an alumna of Howard University, Washington, D.C., Janyce
completed her certificate in Dental Hygiene and Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in Human Nutrition and Foods. She was awarded the Master of Public
Health degree with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After a nine year lectureship at
Morgan State University’s School of Education and Urban Studies, Departments of Family and Consumer Science and Health, Physical Education, Recreation
and Dance, Janyce now focuses her energy on being our oral hygiene specialist. In our spa setting, she is directly responsible for empowering and educating
clients to be and do their “healthy” best in all aspects of health, especially the teeth and gums. Janyce is the proud mother of Jannah Farah, an energetic,
multi-talented teen who keeps her on roller skates when not walking on the track, visiting eclectic restaurants and interesting places or taking in music/theater events.

Dr. Locklear is fortunate to have a loyal following of visitors from all over. It is our pleasure to accommodate our out-of-town guests by assisting with travel arrangements, hotel accommodations, restaurant reservations, and ground transportation.

The purpose of The Gift of a Smile Foundation is to provide services and need-based financial resources for comprehensive aesthetic and reconstructive dental care for those whose lives have been severely limited by an unaesthetic smile or the pain of jaw misalignment.
